Description: Between North America and Europe, South America, Central America, Asia or South Pacific. One-Way Cabin Upgrade on Full Fare. Valid for use with fare basis codes beginning with J, W or Y.

Terms and Conditions

Single-use award valid for a one-way upgrade to next class of service only. Valid for use on eligible full fare ticket booked in fare basis code J, W, or Y.

Valid on flights marketed and operated by American Airlines or American Eagle, ticketed on American Airlines ticket stock (AA001). Not valid on flights operated by other airlines under a codeshare agreement, including codeshare flights marketed as American Airlines.

Valid for travel to American Airlines destinations between North America and Europe, South America, Central America, Asia or South Pacific. For all award options, North America is defined as Continental United States, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. Central America is defined as Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. South America Zone 1 is defined as Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. South America Zone 2 is defined as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Asia is defined as China, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea. South Pacific is defined as American Samoa, Australia, Easter Island, Fiji, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Kiribati, Republic of Tonga, Republic of Vanuatu, Samoa and Solomon Islands.

Reservations may be made and tickets purchased from any authorized Travel Agency or American Airlines.

Tickets must be issued prior to requesting upgrade.

How to request an upgrade
Online: After the reservation is ticketed, you can request an upgrade online at business.aa.com.
By Phone: In the United States and Canada, contact American Airlines Meeting Services at (800) 433-1790 Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. (CT) and Saturday and Sunday 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (CT). Outside of the United States and Canada, contact your local American Airlines reservations or ticket office.
Travel agencies can add the upgrade segment to a reservation, but must call in to obtain authorization.

Upgrades are subject to seating limitations and capacity controls.

Restricted travel dates and travel embargos apply.

Upgrade awards expire one year from award redemption date. Travel must be completed by the expiration date, which is listed on the award redemption confirmation.

A ticket issued against the upgrade award may not be reissued once travel has commenced. Open tickets may not be issued.

Stopovers are permitted if fare purchased allows.

Joint and through fares are allowed if applicable.

Award is not redeemable for cash and is void if sold for cash or other consideration. This certificate has no value except when redeemed in accordance with these terms and conditions.

If, after ticketing, your ticket must be reissued, an administrative service charge may apply.

Any tax liability is the responsibility of the user.

Award cannot be combined with any other coupon, discount, promotional offer, AAdvantage® award, or Business Extra award. Award not valid on fares that do not allow upgrades, tour fares, off-tariff, non-published, or other privately negotiated discount fares including, without limitation, group or block discounts. However, this certificate is applicable to meeting services and privately negotiated corporate fares.

AAdvantage mileage will accrue for the class of service on which your fare is based when you are ticketed, not for the class of service flown when using an upgrade award.

American Airlines reserves the right to change the inventory restrictions at any time, without notice.

If upgrade inventory is not available you will have the option to be placed on a waitlist and your upgrade request will be accommodated if inventory becomes available. While waitlisted, the upgrade certificate will enter a temporary pending status, rendering it non-transferrable for use on another flight or by another traveler. If your upgrade request cannot be accommodated the upgrade certificate will return to active status and may be used for a future flight or transferred to another traveler.

American Airlines is not responsible for lost or stolen upgrade certificates and will not replace or return upgrade certificates that have entered flown status.
